Why We Scrapped Our Moisturizer

Two years. That is how long we spent developing our Daily SPF Moisturizer. The formula was finished. The packaging was designed. We were ready to launch it alongside the rest of the line.

Then the FDA added bemotrizinol to the list of permitted sunscreen ingredients, the first new one in more than 20 years. Much of the rest of the world has relied on it for years. American formulas could not use it until now.

So we had a decision to make. Launch a brand-new product built on the old standard, or scrap a finished formula and go back to the lab.

We scrapped it. Gladly.

Mulholland exists because of a refusal: nothing on the shelf was good enough to keep. That standard does not bend when it becomes inconvenient or expensive, and it certainly does not bend for our own products. Launching a moisturizer we knew was about to be outdated would have been exactly the kind of compromise this house was built to reject.

We are back in the lab now, rebuilding the Daily SPF Moisturizer around the new filter. It costs us time. It is the right call.

The Nightly Retinol Serum is on its way. The moisturizer will follow when it meets the standard, and not a day before. Join the list and you will be the first to know.
